About Mercurous Chloride Purified
Mercurous Chloride, also known as Mineral Calomel (a rare mineral), Dimercury Dichloride,
Mercury(I) Chloride, appears as yellowish-white or dense white odorless hygroscopic powder or
solid having the chemical formula Hg2Cl2 or Cl2Hg2. It is insoluble in Water and highly toxic that
is able to readily decompose into metallic Mercury and the very poisonous Mercuric Chloride on
exposure to sunlight or if heated in the presence of moisture. It can be prepared by sublimation of
Mercury-Mercuric Chloride mixture or by precipitation from a Mercurous Chloride solution.
