About Red Dye #17 FD&C, FCC Grade

Red Dye # 17, also known as Allura Red, Food Red 17, and FD&C 40 has the chemical formula C18H14N2Na2O8S2. It appears as an odorless, dark red powder or granules and is soluble in Water and Alcohol at ambient conditions.
