About Sodium Bicarbonate Lab Grade

Sodium Bicarbonate, also known as Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, Carbonic Acid Monosodium Salt, Bicarbonate of Soda, and Baking Soda, has the chemical formula NaHCO3 or CHNaO3. It appears as colorless or white crystalline masses or crystalline powder having free solubility in Water and Methanol at ambient conditions. It is the monosodium salt of Carbonic Acid and has alkalinizing and electrolytic characteristics. When dissolved in Water, it dissociates into Sodium and Bicarbonate ions. In the human body, its presence can raise blood pH through buffering of excess hydrogen ions.

Chemically pure or Laboratory reagents are the two terms often used to describe Lab Grade chemicals. Lab Grade chemicals do not meet any accepted quality or purity requirements such as the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, and the FCC Grade, despite their acceptable purity. Due to its high purity, this Lab Alley product is highly recommended for labs and commercial applications.

Sodium bicarbonate (IUPAC name: sodium hydrogen carbonate), commonly known as baking soda, is a chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. It is a salt composed of a sodium cation (Na+) and a bicarbonate anion (HCO3−). Sodium bicarbonate is a white solid that is crystalline, but often appears as a fine powder. It has a slightly salty, alkaline taste resembling that of washing soda (sodium carbonate). The natural mineral form is nahcolite. It is a component of the mineral natron and is found dissolved in many mineral springs.

Because it has long been known and is widely used, the salt has many related names such as baking soda, bread soda, cooking soda, and bicarbonate of soda. The term baking soda is more common in the United States, whereas bicarbonate of soda is more common in Australia and Britain.[9] In colloquial usage, the names sodium bicarbonate and bicarbonate of soda are often truncated; forms such as sodium bicarb, bicarb soda, bicarbonate, and bicarb are common.

Sodium Bicarbonate is the monosodium salt of carbonic acid with alkalinizing and electrolyte replacement properties. Upon dissociation, sodium bicarbonate forms sodium and bicarbonate ions. Ion formation increases plasma bicarbonate and buffers excess hydrogen ion concentration, resulting in raised blood pH. Sodium bicarbonate appears as odorless white crystalline powder or lumps. Slightly alkaline (bitter) taste. pH (of freshly prepared 0.1 molar aqueous solution): 8.3 at 77°F. pH (of saturated solution): 8-9. Non-toxic. Sodium bicarbonate is a white, crystalline powder that is commonly used as a pH buffering agent, an electrolyte replenisher, systemic alkalizer and in topical cleansing solutions.

A little expensive but good quality

A little expensive for 1lb compared to store bought baking soda. But it is ACS grade.

I was worried about purity, until I purchased from Lab Alley

I wanted to go direct to a source rather than work with a 3rd party supplier and I was worried about fillers in the common off the shelf items (rhymes with Farm and Stammer)

Good stuff will continue to purchase as needed.
